Presentation on homophobia in sport - Seoul, Korea 2017

In July of 2017, I was the guest of the Korean Sexual-Minority Culture and Rights Center, an LGBTQ+ activist organization based in Seoul. In anticipation of the upcoming Olympic Games in PyeongChang, the group asked me to deliver a presentation on homophobia in sport. The Canadian Embassy hosted the lecture.

In 2014 I travelled throughout southern Mexico interviewing women and girls who play football. This piece is a result of that research.

During the Sochi Winter Olympic Games, I journeyed to Moscow, Russia in support of the Russian LGBT Sport Federation. I wrote about the experience.

This deep dive into the history of Brazilian women's soccer, current challenges faced by women and girls in the sport, and the activists trying to make a difference ran in two venues: on Roads & Kingdoms and on Sports Illustrated online.

They’d say: “Football is a man’s sport. You’re going to hurt yourself.”

After a summer of conducting interviews in Mexico, I found myself in Peru during the autumn where I decided to continue my research.
