I'm a queer Canadian non-fiction writer whose passions for travel and soccer have led me to play the beautiful game on four continents. I specialize in stories about travel, sport, human rights, and LGBT and gender issues, and my writing has appeared in publications including Sports Illustrated online, the Globe & Mail, and Curve Magazine. I'm currently at work on my first book.
An activist for more than two decades, I currently serve on the board of directors for Pride House International, and I'm the team lead for Football v Homophobia - Americas. I've offered expert consultation in print, video, radio, and as a podcast guest for more than a dozen international outlets, and I'm a two-time winner of the Toronto-based Gary Manz Award for "great dedication or volunteerism in the community, most notably towards gay sport". I'm available for speaking engagements on topics including LGBTQ+ sports inclusion, women and girls in international soccer/football, and using sport for community development.
When not writing, travelling, or speaking, I spend my free time trying to figure out how to qualify for a soccer squad in Asia, Australia, or Antarctica.
spotlight on speaking
In advance of the PyeongChang Olympic Games, I delivered a two-hour lecture and workshop on homophobia in sport to LGBTIQ+ activists in Seoul, Korea.
Whether working with tourism bureaus, social justice organizations, literary publications, or other writers, my goal is to produce quality, meaningful storytelling.
In addition to writing and editing, I offer social media management services to small and medium-sized organizations and non-profits. Contact me.
